I love jet-setting as much as the next person, but it stresses me out immensely.
Much of my travel anxiety stems from post-spill debacles. Over the last five years, I’ve lost at least 10 expensive items to my revolving door of shoddy travel containers or accidentally cracked glass bottles.
But since last month, when my friend Liv gifted me a Cadence Capsule System, I’m suddenly feeling SO much better about taking toiletries on the go…
Ghosts of Products Past…
I’ve lost count of—just kidding. I’ve never forgotten a single item that I’ve lost to a cracked/leaky container, because each one represents so much money down the drain. Here’s a (painful) summary:
- ILIA Super Serum Skin Tint ($48)
- La Roche Posay Triple Repair Moisturizing Cream ($20)
- TULA Replenishing Cleansing Oil ($32)
- TAN-LUXE Body Drops ($60)
- Nécessaire The Body Wash ($35)
- Osea Undaria Alegae Malibu Body Oil ($52)
- La Mer Tonique de la Mer ($95)
- Paula’s Choice Niacinamide Treatment ($52)
- Caudalie Resveratrol-Lift ($84)
- Clinique Take the Day Off ($26)
That makes for a grand total of $504. But But there’s no use in dwelling in the past. With Cadence, I don’t have to worry about losing any hard-earned product ever again. Let me explain.
Presenting… Cadence
Cadence is a second-generation AAPI- and female-owned company. Steph Hon, Founder and CEO, developed the idea for magnetic, TSA-approved travel-size capsules designed to support your routine on-the-go, and then worked on over 200 iterations to perfect her first release (which was an instant hit).
In 2023, Cadence unveiled the Flex Capsule System, an upgrade to The Original Capsules in that they’re much larger. These days, the aesthetic of the capsules is ever-expanding. Just about every other month Cadence announces a new color line (like these vibrant Violets or minimalist Neutrals).
If I sound like a radio ad right now, it’s probably because I read so many Cadence reviews after I received my system. People had nothing but good things to say. A few even presented awards! In 2022, for example, TIME named Cadence a “Best Invention” of the year.
My New Capsule System
So what are the features that Steph so painstakingly mastered? They include (but are not limited to)…
- Completely spill- and leak-proof
- TSA-approved (and roomy)
- Made with recycled ocean-bound plastics
So basically, Cadence travel capsules were designed with someone like me in mind… someone known to destroy her belongings with her other belongings while traveling. My friend Liv knew what she was doing when she gifted these lifesavers to me.
There are a lot of ways to customize a system with Cadence, but Liv started from scratch because she had “too many ideas” for my set. In the end, she decided on seven capsules: three for serums, then one for shampoo, conditioner, moisturizer, and tanner. As my graveyard of lost toiletries will confirm, I’m a biiiig serum gal, so Liv even took the extra step to customize serum labels for me according to brand.
Size-wise, she arranged for all seven to to be 1.32 oz (the medium size) and she also included a Flex Extender in case I need a little extra room. As for colors, Liv hit a homerun there, too. She chose a combo of pale pink Petal, soft Lavender, and rich Eucalyptus. The range is just playful enough to feel me but also simple enough to feel neutral.
Crunching the Numbers With My Capsules
Capsules individually cost between $14-36. The first thing I did after receiving (and researching) my Cadence System was to scold Liv for spending roughly $150 on me. When she explained her logic, though, it all made sense.
“First of all, it was your birthday,” She’d said, “And second, now that you have them you’ll save sooo much money in the long run.”
She’s got a point. Thanks to my Cadence System, I won’t have to buy any cheaply made travel containers OR upcharged travel sizes of the products I love. I also won’t lose the money that inevitably goes to waste when one of said bottles breaks or spills. In those scenarios, I lose a container of product plus whatever clothing/book/shoe it leaked all over. I can only imagine how quickly the savings will stack up…
Long Story Short… I’m Forever Indebted to Liv for My Cadence System
If you’ve spilled even one bottle while traveling, Cadence will change your life for the better. And as Hon herself will confirm, this is one product that’s meant to stick with you for years after purchase. After all, a breakable travel capsule would kinda defeat the purpose, right?
