It all started with one fateful present…
Solawave’s 4-in-1 Skincare Wand first appeared on my feed three years ago, when both my skin and my self-confidence were at an all-time low. In the reviews, customers reveled over their salon-quality results (the device is both FDA-cleared and HSA/FSA-eligible) obtained at a surprisingly low price point. I placed an order and crossed my fingers.
Before I knew it, I was looking forward to the self-administered treatments. I’d use the dropper to glaze my skin with the LightBoost Wand Activating Serum, then glide the wand across different patches of my face, moving slowly across the entire surface. I forced myself not to revisit reviews so I could assess my results (or lack thereof) without bias, but undeniable changes took form within a few weeks. My skin felt firmer, brighter, and less inflamed. If I needed a quick de-puffing, the wand became my go-to.
Then came my birthday. My older sister, in all of her wisdom, gifted me Solawave’s Wrinkle Retreat Face Mask & LightBoost Serum Kit. My initial reaction was confusion: “But I already have my wand…?”
I wasn’t sure whether I’d enjoy or even use the mask. That said, here’s my full experience unboxing the Wrinkle Retreat Face Mask & LightBoost Serum Kit: trying it for the first time, comparing it to the wand, understanding how it works. And (spoiler alert) establishing the system I use today.
If Solawave Sounds Familiar, Here’s Why
I knew I’d seen the name somewhere. Apparently, after launching in 2020, Solawave was named one of the top five fastest-growing beauty startups. The very same 4-in-1 wand that came across my Instagram way back when has since been called “revolutionary” and seen spotlights in publications from every corner of the industry: Cosmopolitan, NYLON, Harper’s Bazaar, and Vogue.
My favorite feature is when celeb makeup artists, with clients including Reese Witherspoon, Doja Cat, Pedro Pascal, and Sydney Sweeney, cite Solawave as a go-to of theirs. Unsurprisingly, the brand has received a parade of awards recognizing their efforts, one of which was the 2023 Women’s Health Beauty Award.
My Initial Thoughts
Unpacking the mask kit made me feel like an extra on The Purge… the eye holes and back-strap felt a little too ominous to be skincare. But I did love the fact that it was rechargeable (just like the wand!) and came with its own cable, plus a remote.

The kit also came with the LightBoost Face & Neck Serum, a hydrating, renewing topical formulated to supercharge the effects of red light therapy (in any form, from any brand or salon). The bottle said to apply the serum with red light therapy treatments but also on off-days, as part of a daily routine. I really liked the idea that even on the days I didn’t use the mask, I could apply the serum and know that I was still making progress toward the skin of my dreams.
Made with flexible, medical-grade silicone, the full-face mask was way more accommodating than I expected, both to the touch and to my suitcase (which I tried to fit it into for scientific purposes). Given the portability of my wand, I was super curious as to how well this (decidedly larger) mask would travel.
My First Time Strapping In
I admittedly braced myself for an inevitable sense of claustrophobia, but was pleasantly surprised to find that I could easily forget I was wearing the mask. Aside from subtle blurring in the outer corners of my eyes, the medical-grade silicone was both gentle and forgiving.
It was also a wild experience to be completely hands-free while receiving red light therapy. I was used to the responsibility of moving the 4-in-1 Skincare Wand across my face, but with the Wrinkle Retreat Mask I could read, scroll, lay… even cook if I wanted to (as if, lol).

The mask was self-timed at 10 minutes, so it powered off on its own, just like the wand. I appreciated the certainty that my entire face had been equally exposed to red lights at the end of treatment. Whenever I used the wand, I always worried that I’d “gone too hard” in one area and given more attention to one side or section of my face over another.
I Explored the Science Behind Red Light Therapy
After a few trial runs with the Wrinkle Retreat Face Mask & LightBoost Serum Kit, I got curious as to what, exactly, was going on behind the soft pink silicone.
Through several internet searches, I learned that low-wavelength red light can penetrate deep into the skin and stimulate collagen production, which then helps reduce the appearance of wrinkles, uneven skin tone, and blemishes. The Wrinkle Retreat Light Therapy Mask in particular combines both Red and Near-Infrared Light, and while each has a slightly different purpose, together the effects are as follows:
- Visibly restore and rejuvenate skin
- Reduce fine lines and wrinkles
- Minimize appearance of sun damage
- Address overall signs of aging in the skin
As for the LightBoost Face & Neck Serum, the ingredient list sounded potent to say the least: growth factors and niacinamide (said to accelerate collagen production) combine with “botox-esque” peptides to help tighten and firm the skin.

I’m a Proud Member of the Solawave Sisterhood
Now that it’s been several months, I can confidently say Solawave’s 4-in-1 Skincare Wand and Wrinkle Retreat Face Mask Kit have formed the collaborative partnership I never knew my skin needed. While the mask basks my entire face in the glow of red light therapy, the wand allows me to target specified areas and enjoy the depuffing effects of facial massage.

As for the LightBoost Face & Neck Serum? It’s become an everyday step in my skincare routine. As a matter of fact, last week I went to replenish my serum and learned that Solawave offers a subscription for the topical that will (a) automatically keep you in stock and (b) save you 35% (that’s roughly $20!) on every bottle. Easiest “yes” ever.
I’m Forever Indebted to My Solawave Device Duo
In the end (surprise, surprise) I was wrong to doubt my sister in the slightest. My 4-in-1 Skincare Wand and Wrinkle Retreat Face Mask & LightBoost Serum Kit are mutually beneficial but, at the same time, distinct in their applications. Between all 3 products, I have a specialized method to maintain this new caliber of skin regardless of what life throws my way.
No one was more satisfied to witness this progression of events than my sister. Apparently, she’d been eyeing the kit for me for weeks, but it was sold out forever… and now I can see why.
I’ll tell you what she told me: Solawave products have a 60-day free trial period, after which you can return for a full refund. But honestly? I doubt you’ll want to make that return.
