Bedding As Comfy As a Mom’s Hug
It’s back-to-school season and parents are on the search for cozy items to send off with their kids. As a mom of two, I have some recommendations for little comforts that go a long way. When my kids left for college I outfitted them with my favorite pillows and comforters from Buffy: the softest, comfiest bedding brand out there.
This sustainable bedding is as much a hit with the kids as it is for me. They love that it’s cute and cozy-as-can-be, and I love that it’s durable, high-quality, and doesn’t break the bank. If you’re shopping for a recent grad, comfort items are great gifts for making college freshmen as comfortable as they can be moving out on their own.
Editor’s Note: Buffy’s back-to-school sale is happening right now. Everything is 15% off, so now is the perfect time to stock up on comfy college essentials.
Something My Kids and I Agree On
Today’s students are tomorrow’s leaders, but what they’re not is clean. Take it from me—my 18 year old son is a math whiz, but I don’t think he knows how to operate a washing machine. The only thing he requested when he left for college was a bed where he could “study hard and nap harder.” Mission accomplished with Buffy.
He gets the quality sleep he needs, while I can rest easier knowing he’s napping with naturally hypoallergenic, bacteria-resistant eucalyptus bedding. There are already enough germs in college, so at least his bedding has his back when I can’t wash it weekly myself.
My 21 year old daughter, on the other hand, appreciates quality comfort. When she first moved out on her own, her biggest focus was building a cozy apartment that people wanted to hang out in. With Buffy it was so easy because all of their colors are as soft and inviting as their products.
She’s an Environmental Sciences major so she’s all about sustainability. She LOVES that each pillow and comforter is made with earth-friendly materials and recycles 50-75 plastic bottles—and that Buffy provides environmental impact reports right on their website.
My fiercely independent kids and I don’t always see eye to eye, but one thing we can all agree on is how much we love Buffy bedding.
My Student-Approved Gift Guide
The Cloud Pillow
My kids love how soft and fluffy these pillows are and I love that they remind them of home. It was so important to me to be able to give them an inviting spot to lay their heads while they’re somewhere new and unfamiliar. My daughter opted for the firmest option, while my son went for the soft option for maximum comfort.
My Son’s Rating: 9/10 “Much fluffier than my roommate’s Target pillows.”
Pro Tip: You can order a single pillow, a pair, or set of four—but you get the best savings when you bundle (and that’s on top of the 15% off sale price).
The Cloud Comforter
When my daughter first moved to college, one of her biggest complaints was the constant back and forth with her roommate over the thermostat in their dorm. This temperature regulating comforter was perfect because it kept her cool on hot nights and warm on cold ones. The ultimate life hack for comfort and coziness.
My Daughter’s Rating: 10/10 “It’s also great for game night or cheese and crackers in the quad.”
Pro Tip: Pair with a colorful duvet cover for easier washing, or machine wash it on its own. The stitching keeps the filling from bunching up in the wash.
The Wiggle Pillow + Cover
This floppy-yet-supportive, tie-able pillow is made of a fluffy eucalyptus fiber blend. It’s cool and quirky and perfect for snuggling or nestling in to write a paper. I would have killed to have one when I was pregnant with these two.
My Son’s Rating: 12/10 “Snuggly AF. My girlfriend keeps stealing it.”
Pro Tip: Check out the fuzzy pillow covers. They have three different options: a beautiful cream, a mellow tan, and a peachy pink color.
The Cloud Body Pillow
The classic body pillow–perfected. Need I say more? It’s great for side, stomach, and back sleepers. The super silky 300-count TENCEL lyocell fiber keeps you cool and cozy through the night.
My Daughter‘s Rating: 11/10 “My roommate and I use it for movie nights, studying, and especially napping.”
Pro Tip: Pat yourself on the back because the filling of each body pillow recycles 73 plastic bottles.
The Nook Pillow
My entire life I only ever used these little donuts as travel pillows; on planes, trains, and in airports. It wasn’t until recently that I realized I’d been missing out on their full couch-potato potential. When I saw the Nook Pillow on Buffy’s website, it was like a lightbulb went off. Duh! I immediately got one for my daughter and one for myself.
My Daughter’s Rating: 10/10 “The perfect oversized neck pillow for late-night study sessions. The librarians get a kick out of it too.”
Pro Tip: Buy two. You’re gonna want one, your husband is gonna want one, your friends are gonna want one, your kids are definitely going to steal one. Trust me.
Tools for Comfort, Tools for Life
Watching our kids grow up and move out is always going to be hard. The best thing we can do is give them tools to live their very best life. It brings me peace knowing that, thanks to Buffy, they have some comfort in their home for hard nights when they’re hundreds of miles away. It also makes me happy to know their bedding will last and stick with them as they transition into freshly minted adults.
Whether you’re buying for your own kids or for a family friend, high-quality comfort items are always in style, and perfect for turning a dorm or apartment into a home.
Buffy’s back-to-school sale is happening now, but not for long. Head over to their website to check out their ultra-cozy bedding essentials and save 15% sitewide.
