It Wouldn’t Be the Holidays Without Milk Bar
For over a decade, my husband and I have been taking the kids to Connecticut to visit their grandparents for Chrismukkah. Nana and Nonno (my in-laws) are full of holiday cheer, and they go all-out on the decorations, music, and presents—while we’re in charge of bringing the desserts.
The problem is that I can’t bake (like, at all) and none of the bakeries nearby in Connecticut are up to her impossibly high standards.
That’s where the peppermint perfection of Milk Bar’s annual limited edition holiday collection comes in. See, around this time every year, Milk Bar releases decadent seasonal treats perfect for gifting, sharing, celebrating, or midnight-snacking.
Editor’s Note: Milk Bar’s limited edition holiday treats are selling out quickly. Schedule a delivery now to secure your treats while they’re still available (and get free shipping on all orders $90+). Be sure to order by 12/20 to ensure delivery by Christmas!
A few years ago my husband and I made a pit-stop at the bakery in New York on our way to his parents’ house and snagged all three treats, and I have never seen my mother in law happier than she was that day. Since then, it’s become a family tradition.
This year, Nana and Nonno decided to come down to our place in Miami for Christmas, and while we’re excited to host them, the first thing on my mind was: Oh no. There are no Milk Bar bakeries in Florida. But as luck would have it, Milk Bar is now offering nationwide, next-day delivery. That means we can get all of our favorite holiday treats delivered to our front door.
In case you’ve been living a sugar-free life, let me fill ya in on Milk Bar:
What’s a Milk Bar?
Dubbed “a dessert empire” by The New York Times, Milk Bar is considered an establishment in New York. However, that wasn’t always the case. Before becoming the host of Netflix’s Bake Squad and landing features in numerous other TV shows—Milk Bar’s Founder and CEO Christina Tosi opened the first Milk Bar store in 2008.
Milk Bar is basically a place where you can be a kid again and enjoy the butter-filled, sugar-packed, no-holds-barred desserts your mom used to make (just made by an award-winning pastry chef). Think cookies stuffed with potato chips and pretzels, funfetti cake, and pies made mostly of butter. Milk Bar is committed to making dessert more fun than fancy—the way dessert is supposed to be.
Now that Milk Bar has nationwide delivery, anyone can celebrate the holidays with the world-famous bakery’s limited edition peppermint collection. Apparently Milk Bar’s limited edition fall treats all sold out way before Thanksgiving, so when I saw that I could schedule a delivery up to 30 days in advance, I ordered a bunch of treats that will show up the same day Nana arrives.
Here’s what I ordered:
Chocolate Mint Chip Cake (Limited Quantities Available)
The centerpiece of the dessert table: the Chocolate Mint Chip Cake is a nod to mint chocolate chip ice cream, and it’s even more irresistible. It all starts with three thick layers of rich double chocolate chip cake, which are layered with gooey chocolate filling, chocolate mint chip frosting, and minty milk crumbs. It’s finished with a layer of minty milk crumbs and chocolate crumbs.
Decadent, chocolatey, and with juuust the right amount of mint, this cake is truly a winter wonder.
Peppermint Bark Tie Dye Pie (Limited Quantities Available)
The Peppermint Pretzel Tie Dye Pie (AKA peppermint bark 2.0) is a creation that only the sweet geniuses at Milk Bar could concoct. The chocolate crust is layered with candy cane nougat and vanilla cocoa caramel, drizzled with dark chocolate, then topped with salty-sweet chocolate-dipped holiday pretzels. It’s basically part pie, part candy, part pretzel, and 100% delicious.
My father in law is a fiend for peppermint bark, so this won’t last long around him. I ordered two so he can have his own personal pie, while the rest of us can share the second.
Chocolate Mint Chip Cake Truffles (Update 12/16: Sold Out)
Milk Bar doesn’t usually make a limited edition cake without the truffles to match, and this season is no different. These glorious Chocolate Mint Chip Cake Truffles are like doughnut holes, but not sad and dry. Each truffle has a fudgy double chocolate chip cake center which is soaked in minty milk, then coated in mint chip crumbs.
The truffles are my personal favorite Milk Bar treat, so after I scheduled a delivery for the holidays, I ordered a box for myself (and was delighted when it arrived the next day).
The Most Delicious Gift of the Year
I cannot wait to see the ear-to-ear smiles on Nana and Nonno’s faces when they see their favorite treats at our house in Miami.
Whether you’re looking to impress your relatives, treat your loved ones who live across the country, or just want to celebrate with Milk Bar’s legendary desserts, you truly can’t go wrong with the Chocolate Mint Chip Cake, Truffles, or Peppermint Bark Snaps. Fair warning, there’s a 100% chance these will all sell out.
I can’t reiterate this enough: don’t wait to order your treats, because once they’re sold out, they won’t be back until next year. Head to Milk Bar’s website to make your holiday dessert dreams come true.
