Don’t get me wrong, I’m a 25-year-old girl living in New York City, so any money I can save…you bet I save it. I’m talking mediocre homemade lunches, walking or public transportation unless absolutely necessary, and somehow ignoring all of the stores that I pass on a regular basis.
It definitely isn’t growing on trees for me, but on special occasions I won’t shy away from treating myself either. And my kryptonite? Skincare.
The creams, the serums, the lotions, the masks, the oils – you name it, I love it. And I’m not talking about the cheap, drugstore brand skincare products. I only go for high-quality, clean-ingredient, well-reviewed products that I know will make my money worth it. I’m not about to do a 15-step routine for nothing.
In my latest skincare frenzy, I started to realize that the products I was spending the time and money using, weren’t really working anymore. To avoid all that going to waste, I did a little research and came across jolieskinco.com. Jolie is a beauty wellness brand that specializes in filtered shower water, with their signature filtered showerhead.
They also offer a free water report where you can plug in your zip code, and it shows you what kind of contaminants are in your local shower water. I gave it a go and let me just say…GROSS.
From Jolie’s water report I learned that my local water sources have haloacetic acids, which cause skin irritation and weak hair, and chlorine, which causes dry skin and damaged hair, just to name a few. Among these contaminants, plenty of other commonly found chemicals and toxins can cause things like brittle hair and nails, rashes and redness, dullness and more – all from your tap water!
Although the US water supplies are considered to be among the safest in the world, more and more contamination is occurring on a rapid basis – cue my scary-sounding water report. All tap water across the country technically must meet the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations, but it’s not as regulated as we think. So many of the standards set by the EPA are decades old, and with growing contamination and pollution, those standards are no longer safe for us anymore.
The cold hard truth: the reason my skincare products weren’t working could have been caused by sewage releases, naturally occurring chemicals and minerals, local land practices like fertilizers and pesticides, manufacturing processes, and malfunctioning septic systems.
I quickly realized that even though I was careful to buy high-end products with quality ingredients, if the water I was showering in everyday was filled with chemicals and toxins that I was completely unaware of, none of it mattered. My products were never going to work if I wasn’t careful about my tap water, and my money would continue to go down the drain (pun intended).
I was able to get my hands on a Jolie filtered showerhead before their official launch in December, and let me just say, my entire routine has been changed. I chose the all white showerhead, but it comes in a bunch of colors, and it was super easy to install – no plumber required. After just a few weeks of showering with my Jolie showerhead, my skin was glowing and my hair was incredibly soft. Not to mention, I had stopped overdoing it with the skincare products and was only using the basics.
My Jolie showerhead practically eliminated the need for expensive products: my hair and skin has never looked or felt better now that I’m showering in truly filtered water. The average American spends almost $3,000 on skincare products a year, and embarrassingly enough I probably spent more. With my Jolie showerhead I no longer need to waste all that money because my hair and skin are finally getting the nourishment they’ve been craving – it’s seriously that simple.
