I’m all for a hard seltzer. They go down easily, they’re not super high in calories, and they taste decent (well…some of them do). Until about a week ago, I thought I was stuck with hard seltzers for good. “Well, they’re my only option so I might as well get used to them right?” WRONG.
Yes, hard seltzers are low in calories and sugar and get the job done, but no one actually knows what’s inside of them. Is it tequila? Is it vodka? Is it moonshine?? I did some research because I was getting suspicious, and most hard seltzers are made with malt liquor which is basically a mix of super cheap, poor quality ingredients that result in a high ABV liquid. So no one’s really sure what exactly goes into it, which is why most brands don’t even put the nutrition facts on the cans! WTF!!
After digesting all of this wild information, I took a hard look at my seltzer stash and decided I wanted to drink something that tasted good, made me happy, and had ingredients that didn’t freak me out. Enter: Spritz Society.
After seeing some hints pop up on Instagram from @boywithnojob and @girlwithnojob, the insta-famous NYC couple, I discovered that they were launching a wine based sparkling canned cocktail called Spritz Society. Other than the cutest packaging I’ve ever seen, I loved how transparent they were about the process as well as what went inside the product. The wine comes from vineyards in California, they use natural fruit flavors, and each product is about 120 calories and only 7 carbs and 5 grams of sugar. Sure, it might be a little bit more than your average hard seltzer, but I’d rather have my drink taste good and use ingredients that aren’t going to destroy my insides. Lesson learned.
When my variety pack arrived (quite quickly I might add), I was VERY eager to taste test. The variety pack comes with four cans each of all four of their flavors: grapefruit, blood orange, lemonade and pineapple. Naturally I had to try them all, and let me just say, WOW. Wow, wow, wow. I was definitely expecting something like a hard seltzer, and Spritz Society blew those expectations out of the water.
Each flavor was so distinctly fruity and delicious, and there was nothing artificial or chemically about it. It had the perfect amount of bubbles, and was sweet enough to easily enjoy but not too sweet that you would get sick of them either.
I brought the rest of the variety pack out with me to the beach over the weekend, and everyone that I was with (men and women) all were pleasantly surprised about how good they were too. They’re perfect to sip out of the chilled can, but also fun to mix it up and pour over ice in a wine glass if you’re feeling fancy. Pinkies up!
I’m sorry if anyone reading this was saddened by my hard seltzer horrors, but I’m telling you, Spritz Society will make your life ten thousand times better. The flavors are incredible, the ingredients are ones that you’ve actually heard of, and the taste will blow you away.
