Ever found yourself staring at your phone, tablet, TV, or computer and wondering where the pores of your favorite celebrity or beauty vlogger went?
No? Just us? Okay.
If you’re like us, you’ve probably scoured Youtube’s best beauty vloggers and found that while they do have glowing skin, it’s probably because of the treatments that they regularly have the time and the money for. It’s soul-crushing to find out how much of these beauty vloggers are actually just in it for the money, not us. Us mere mortals that just want to humbly pursue a skincare journey that would ensure healthy and younger-looking skin.
But that’s a discussion for another time. In this article, TheGetWell lists the simplest ways that celebrities do to take care of their skin. Happy scrolling!
Get Zzzs!
Most, if not all, of your favorite celebrities, could definitely talk your ear out about the benefits of a good night’s sleep. Celebrities like Lea Michele and Jennifer Lopez agree that getting a lot of sleep gives your skin that major glow. However, what does science say?
According to Sleep.org, your body – during sleep – releases a growth hormone that’s necessary for collagen production. Collagen is a protein found in our body that provides structure to our skin and strength to our bones. Abundant sleep ensures the production of ample amounts of collagen in our body that gives us shiny hair, strong nails, and happy and healthy skin.
It really is a cliché but it’s a cliché for a reason!
Put caffeine on your skin
Yes, you heard that right. Wake up your skin with a scrub from this morning’s coffee grounds. If you’re laughing right now after reading those two sentences well… joke’s on you. Halle Berry, considered as one of the most beautiful people on this planet, uses coffee scrubs religiously.
In an article with Buzzfeed, our Catwoman (sorry, Anne!) claims that she mixes body wash with coffee grounds to exfoliate her skin. She says the caffeine in the coffee beans energizes skin and increases blood flow. In addition, coffee grounds are known to possess cleansing properties due to its high antioxidant content.
Nowadays, coffee products are piling up in your favorite beauty shop with a plethora of skin care products such as scrubs, moisturizers, creams, among others.
Are oils overhyped?
No, we’re not talking about those oils you’d find in your mom’s Facebook groups. We’re talking about oils that have actually been proven to work. A quick Google search would tell you that the best oils for your skin are olive, coconut, shea butter, and almond oil. However, some unproven ingredients like lavender, chamomile, and frankincense are also slowly making waves on the beauty market. We’re going to let you take these with a grain of salt.
Celebrities like Emma Stone have openly stated her love for oils. In an interview with Marie Claire Australia, Gwen Stacy says her sensitive skin has led to her love for natural oils. She puts different kinds of oils such as coconut, argan, and olive oil to use as a moisturizer and overall body conditioner.
Cold, lukewarm, and hot showers
Now, this is a heated topic (no pun intended!). Some sources say that cold showers are better for your skin as it leaves the natural oils on your skin alone as opposed to warm showers that flush them out. On the other hand, lukewarm showers are said to be the most soothing for your skin. Hot showers are probably the most frowned upon as it’s known to flush the natural oils in your skin which, as a result, causes your skin to dry and itch. However, some advocates of hot showers also claim that the warmer the shower is, the better. The steam that your body and the shower produce increases the level of humidity in your shower, therefore, opening up your pores for moisture.

Water is, and forever will be, your best friend
Much like sleep, water has been one of the go-to answers for people when asked about their skincare and beauty regimen. And rightfully so! Beyoncé, Kendall Jenner, Gabrielle Union, Olivia Culpo, and Jennifer Aniston have all said, time and time again, that drinking water is the secret to their beautiful skin.
The only downside? It’s not exactly backed by science. Dr. Mona Gohara, dermatologist and associate clinical professor at Yale University, has told Marie Claire, “There is no evidence that proves drinking tons of water is the secret cure for all of your skin issues.”
Don’t feel disappointed though! The benefits of keeping yourself hydrated definitely outweigh the doubts you might have. Even if it doesn’t have any direct correlation to your skin’s health, water will still help flush out toxins through perspiration, urination, and bowel movements. In addition, choosing water over any type of sugary beverage will also prevent you from taking in unnecessary sugars that might cause inflammation and alter the collagen in your skin.
Let your skin breathe
We cannot stress how important this is. Letting your skin breathe is probably the most uttered phrase by anyone that’s crazy about taking care of their skin. What exactly does it mean though?
Truthfully, it can mean a number of different things. Letting your skin breathe can mean not putting on makeup on weekends, making sure that you regularly wash your face, steam treatments to open up your pores, or just plainly taking off makeup after a long day. However, the best way to let your skin breathe is to cleanse your skin properly and to give your skin a break from using beauty products. This will maintain your skin’s health as well as allow it to naturally rejuvenate.
Disclaimer: Keep in mind that your favorite celebrity’s skin is the result of countless skincare regimens and expensive treatments. The best advice that we could give you is to not be afraid to experiment with your skin until you find a skincare routine that works. However, make sure to experiment within your means. If you can’t spend an absurd amount of money to bathe in Evian water like Serena Williams, it’s perfectly okay! Sleep, drinking plenty of water, and exercise are mostly free anyway.
Until next time!
